ABOUT THE WEST POWELTON DRUMMERS

The West Powelton Steppers Drill Team & Drum Line under the direction of Mrs. Elsie Wise was established in 1991. It is one of the first drillteam to perform at Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida and the first drill team to compete in the Battles of the Bands.

In the course of 25 years the team has not only won National, State and World Championships Competitions, but in 2011 and 2015 at the Drillteam Awards they received awards for Best Bass Line, Best Drum Line, Best Parade Corp, Performer of the Year and Nominee for Best Quad Line. In 2017 won Drum Line of the Year for Drum Line Live at the Merriam Theater. They have performed on Amateur Night at the Apollo, America Got Talent, Governor Edward Rendell's Inaugural Parade, Philadelphia's Welcome to America Fourth of July Parade, the Pennsylvania Black Caucus in Washington DC, the Mummer's New Year’s Day Parade which they won first Place, half time shows for Philadelphia 76ers, New Jersey Devils Hockey games, Philadelphia Soul’s games. The Red Heart Ball at the Marriot, Penn Football and Basketball games, The Phillies World Series Championship Parade and even appeared in front of Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor at the opening of the National Constitution Center. In 2014 became the 76ers Official Drum Line for home games.

The beat is strong with a flavor that cannot be illustrated, with radical foot work and bold body movement unmatched by anyone, along with application to every detail only indicates the passion that these young men and women take their craft seriously. The discipline, team work and self-respect are the key elements that make's West Powelton most proud of its former members whom went on to college, military service and business ventures to become effective leaders of tomorrow. In January 2005 the West Powelton Drill Team & Drum Line was featured on CBS KYW TV News channel 3 in Philadelphia, a story about positive kids putting schoolwork and family first and was featured January 2006 on 10 NBC News channel, "Murder in Philadelphia" a story about teenagers doing their part to prevent crime. We look forward to making our future brighter than our past.
